- If your ball finishes outside the external boundary fence it is deemed out of bounds and you must take stroke-and-distance relief by adding one penalty stroke and playing a ball from where the previous stroke was made
- If you are unsure if your ball has finished ‘OOB’, you should play a provisional ball.
- If your ball comes to rest Inside the OOB course boundary fence but is adjacent to the fence the following applies:
- You may play the ball as it lies
- You may declare your ball unplayable and take relief using one of the 3 options for an unplayable ball and adding one additional penalty stroke.

- When playing the ball as it lies is clearly unreasonable because of something from which the player is not allowed to take free relief (such as when a player is unable to make a stroke because of where the ball lies in a bush), or
- When interference exists only because a player chooses a club, type of stance or swing or direction of play that is clearly unreasonable under the circumstances.
